Porsche has put £1 million pound behind the vehicle which is powered by a small 6kw fuel cell that runs on pressurised hydrogen gas.
The two seater car, the Riversimple, has a top speed of 50mph and a range of 240 miles. It’s exhaust emits only water and its carbon footprint is a tiny fraction of that of a petrol car. That is, if the hydrogen is from sustainable sources. The car has been designed by former motor racing engineer Hugo Spowers. He aims to have 50 cars running in a medium sized city by 2012. The car will be leased at £200 per month with 15 pence per mile to cover fuel.
