New Pay – As You Drive Policy by Co-OP

Sunday Feb 15, 2009

We all know there are drivers who rarely travel in rush hour or late at night. You may be one of them and if you are, it’s probably worth considering pay-as –you drive.

A GPS system is monitoring your usage, i.e. mileage and hours of use and calculates your premium.

Co-operative says that it could reduce insurance for some drivers down to 1p.

This may be a good thing since the average cost for young drivers rose 4 times that of inflation last year.

David Neave, the Director of General Insurance at the Co-op said “With this continuing trend, which directly reflects the increased risk posed by young drivers, a whole generation could become uninsurable, adding to the already growing problem in the UK.”

“As long as young drivers are properly educated about the risks of the road and drive responsibly, there is no reason why they should be priced out of the market. Knowledge is a powerful tool to cut the number of young driver deaths on the road, which currently runs at a shocking 13 a week.”

It’s definitely worth taking a look at your driving habbits and see if Pay-as-you drive could make a difference.
